Restorative Massage

Scar tissue is a result of repairing your body after initial surgery, reconstructive surgery, or radiation fibrosis.  The collagen that repairs the area forms a different pattern than the original fibers of the skin and muscles that were there originally.  That can result in tightness and pain, and a reduced range of motion after treatment.

It is important to massage scars and adhesions as soon as the incision has healed.  The massage may be a gentle self-massage, or from a massage therapist or physical therapist trained in scar tissue massage.  It should be gentle and carefully done to slowly release the adhesions.
