Oncology Massage

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay a deposit and the balance later?

No, however, we have added an option to pay by credit card (all at once), or PayPal/PayPal Credit.  If you opt for Pay Pal, we will invoice and you can apply for the credit and pay interest-free for 6 months.  I have successfully used that option for CE classes before.

Will I be Certified in Oncology Massage?

No, at present you can take an 80 hr class at CATA or take a foundation class approved by S4OM and a test from NCBTMB.  The Society 4 Oncology Massage and NCBTMB are currently working on new requirements and a better exam. It should be approved within the next 6 months and this class has been submitted for approval as one of the foundation classes.

Will this class make it possible for me to get a job or work as a volunteer with Bon Secours or another hospital?

This training would be helpful in any health care facility, but will not guarantee you a job in a hospital setting. As for Bon Secours, they hire 2-3% of applicants across the board, and have not had a massage opening in Greenville in ten years.  We do not currently accept Massage Therapist volunteers.

Is this the same thing as Manual Lymph Drainage?

No, that training is very valuable, and done correctly is around 45 hours of training. It is to help people with Lymphedema.  Oncology Massage teaches you how to work safely with people during and after treatment, and how to avoid triggering lymphedema for clients at risk.  The two trainings complement each other.
